Week 4 results are down a few still sitting at 50 unique visits to the website.

Improving our own stats!

Our WordPress videos are almost finished and this week we’ll also send out our monthly marketing email, so this should see numbers increase in the next 10 days.

Further engagement with the local business community and linkups with current events should also drive in numbers.

At the end of the month we’ll look deeper in the Analytics results to see what visitors to our website are actually looking at and how they are using the site.

This though can sometimes cause problems when you have a special page/template using other HTML.

To get around the problem you can use the following in your template before ‘the_content’ tag:

Note that if this doesn’t work you might already have formatting filters built into your functions.php and you’ll have to investigate that.

Last week’s plan was to introduce some user guide videos ...]]> We’re into the second week of our 12 week series to improve visitor numbers for our own website. By taking our own website advice we’ll be blogging the results every week and reporting on our Marketing and SEO techniques.

How did we do this?

To drive numbers this week we’ve done the following:

• introduced and configured the WordPress SEO plugin from Yoast
• added a support page for our WordPress plugin (FlickrAPI)
• added a working demo of our Magento eCommerce online store

Last week’s plan was to introduce some user guide videos for everyone (and our own clients!) but we missed them out because of sound problems.  We’ll get them online this week and advertise them to our user base.

What’s the point?

At this time it’s prudent to start thinking about what we want website visitors to do when they visit our website.  This is called a “goal” or “conversion”.

If we were running an eCommerce store then a “conversion” would be a sale, but in our case we’ll define our own goal as a visitor sending a “contact us” email.

With this in mind over the week we’ll ensure that all pages have links to our contacts page, and also make the actual page more intuitive and inviting.
